Luxury real estate is gaining a larger foothold in Edmonton.
Paying $1 million — or more — is no longer considered to be a concern for Edmonton homebuyers.
“A million-dollar (price tag) isn’t sticker shock in Edmonton anymore,” said Ryan Debler, senior vice-president, sales, Sotheby’s International Realty Canada. “Over a million or two or three, over five, it’s really become the new norm.”
Debler, handling sales on Edmonton’s latest luxury offering, The Clifton, a new 12-storey, 18-unit, high-end condominium just off 124th Street, said the project has generated interest among potential buyers, even more so now that construction has started.
The Clifton, from Edmonton’s Autograph Group, broke ground this past March and has already sold full-floor units at prices of $9.6 million apiece.
Sitting at 75 per cent sold, six units remain, with prices ranging from $2.85 million to $5.8 million. Originally, the plan for this boutique building was to have 20 units, however, two buyers bought and combined the floor’s other unit; no floor has more than two units.
“The project is resonating strongly with local homeowners who want the benefits of lock-and-leave living while maintaining the feel of a larger, more traditional home,” said Debler. “Many purchasers are long-time residents of the area who were waiting for the right product — something thoughtfully designed for how they want to live today and into the future.”
