Accountant

POSITION OVERVIEW:

We are seeking a professional, detail-oriented, and proactive Accountant to join our team at Autograph Group. This role plays a key part in ensuring accounting records are maintained accurately and on a timely basis, supporting financial reporting preparation, and meeting compliance and regulatory deadlines within a real estate development environment.

Reporting to the Financial Controller, the Accountant will collaborate with development and operations teams to ensure accurate financial tracking across projects while helping maintain organization within the accounting function. The ideal candidate takes ownership of processes, demonstrates strong attention to detail, and is committed to continuous improvement and operational efficiency within the finance department.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Full Cycle Month-End Accounting

  • Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and adjusting entries on a timely basis
  • Perform monthly bank, credit card, loan, and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Maintain general ledger accuracy and ensure proper coding of transactions
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close processes and working paper preparation
  • Review project and corporate transactions to ensure completeness and accuracy
  • Support the Financial Controller in closing periods and resolving discrepancies

Accounts Payable

  • Process vendor invoices and ensure proper coding to projects and entities
  • Manage payment runs and ensure timely vendor payments
  • Maintain vendor records and supporting documentation
  • Coordinate with development and operations teams to obtain invoice approvals
  • Monitor outstanding payables and follow up on discrepancies or missing documentation
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls and approval processes

Maintenance of Records & Processes

  • Maintain organized and up-to-date accounting records and documentation
  • Ensure proper filing and retention of financial and project-related documents
  • Assist in developing and improving accounting processes and internal controls
  • Maintain standardized procedures for recurring accounting activities
  • Support compliance requirements through proper documentation
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and operational efficiencies


Financial Reporting

  • Assist in the preparation of monthly financial statements and supporting schedules
  • Prepare variance analysis and supporting commentary for management review
  • Support budgeting and forecasting processes as required
  • Assist with regulatory and compliance reporting requirements (GST, corporate filings, etc.)
  • Prepare ad-hoc financial analysis and reports as requested
  • Ensure reporting deadlines are met, and information is accurate and complete

Draw Preparation

  • Assist in the preparation of lender and equity draw packages
  • Compile supporting documentation (invoices, contracts, and cost summaries)
  • Track project costs and ensuring alignment with approved budgets
  • Coordinate with development and project teams to gather required draw information
  • Maintain draw tracking schedules and ensure timely submission to lenders
  • Support ongoing monitoring of project funding and cost allocations

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 2+ years of accounting or bookkeeping experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, QuickBooks, and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting processes
  • Experience with full-cycle accounting and month-end close procedures
  • Ability to manage multiple entities, projects, and deadlines in a structured manner
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Experience in real estate, construction, or project-based accounting is considered an asset
